Family conversations, made visible | Jimakun

Jimakun is an accessibility-focused iPhone and iPad app that turns nearby speech into large, easy-to-read live captions for face-to-face conversations. It is designed for everyday situations such as talking at home, checking in at a clinic, speaking with family, or following a conversation while out and about.

The app begins listening when it opens, so users do not need to find a start button each time. The current sentence appears in large type, while the previous sentence can remain visible for context. Users can choose from five text sizes, white, black or sepia backgrounds, and sans-serif or serif type.

Jimakun recognises speech in 22 languages and can translate completed phrases into another supported language. Its interface is available in 20 languages. A personal word list can improve recognition of names and places, and connected external microphones are detected automatically.

Privacy is built into the experience. Jimakun does not save captions or conversation history, requires no account, contains no advertising, and includes no advertising-tracking SDK. Translation uses Apple’s on-device Translation framework; depending on the device and selected language, Apple speech recognition may require an internet connection.

All features are available free for seven days. Continued use is unlocked with a single in-app purchase, with no monthly subscription.
